Things that are throwbacks for people who lived in the 90s:
Giga Pets, Backstreet Boys, Caboodles, TGIF Shows.
These days kids are really into throwback jerseys of their favorite NBA teams and throwback Lip Smackers.
Going back in time can be an awesome, engaging learning experience for students.
I want to share a super fun throwback with you!
This free activity is PERFECT for SEL time, morning meeting, homeroom, small group, and relationship building.
You can download and save this picture file below.
At the start of this activity I have students make some predictions about what is in the picture.
You maybe surprised which students recognize a sewing machine and which ones don’t.
Then I have already linked an AMAZING free NEWS ELA article about fashion.
Fun Fact: It involves chicken and Beyonce, so your students will think it’s cool.
At the end of the activity I have included a fun little drawing activity that allows kids to get creative and explore what styles they are really into.
This has created SUCH interesting conversation in my classes and I’m confident it will do the same in yours.
BOOM!
This is such a fun way to work on skills like:
reflecting on the past
brainstorming about the future
current trends
artistic expression
Here is a link to the free article referenced in the activity
If you love it, and I’m super confident you will, there is plenty more where it came from!
