You can teach in a city.
You can teach in a suburb.
You can teach in a town.
You can teach in a cornfield.
Want to see a completely different version of education?
Change locations!
I challenge everybody to do this for at least a year at some point in their career.
I’ve taught in school buildings where there are 150 kids in just a fraction of the grade level.
I’ve also taught in school buildings where there are less than 150 students in grades 7-12 combined.
And in both of those situations I learned SO, SO much about the needs of kids and how to connect with them on social, emotional, and academic levels.
But in those 2 situations there were also many big differences that challenged me to learn about community dynamics, leadership dynamics, economic dynamics, cultural dynamics, and much more.
Both were tremendous experiences and I’m pumped to have learned about education in different lights.
And at the end of the day, massive similarity exists: we get the privilege to work with young people who need us.
So whatever the size of your city or community, thanks for being a part of this profession!
