I love my mom so much. I call her Super Momma Jayne.
And sometimes she is able to be a super guest speaker in my classroom
She comes into all my SEL classes and celebrates Raisin Day.
Raisin day is a holiday I made up to celebrate every single adult who is “raisin” these kiddos.
As teachers we know that Mother’s Day and Father’s Day don’t fit for all of our kids.
Grandparents day isn’t always a good substitute either.
Some students don’t feel comfortable saying my foster parents.
Other kids are embarrassed to say they live with an aunt or uncle.
But every kid has somebody special in their life who is raisin them, so my mom came in to celebrate that and share some of her favorite parts of being a raisin.
We laughed hard together.
We reflected together.
We shared stories together.
We showed kids what epic love looks like.
And of course, in momma Jayne fashion, she went to the Aldi and bought boxes of raisins for every single kid so they could give a little gift to the person who is raising them.
My mom and dad did a “grape job” of raisin me.
And it was an honor to celebrate this day with her
What do you do in your classroom to be inclusive of all families?
Share this idea if you love it
And thanks for your part in raisin’ kids in classrooms.
