Time is a Gift
And here is a picture to prove it…
These 2 pictures are SO similar and SO very different.
The photo on the left is from 8 years ago.
It was one of my very first “speaking events.”
I use quotes there because I had absolutely no intention of ever becoming a speaker for teachers.
My alma mater, EIU, invited me to come speak to pre-service teachers about how awesome this career is.
The organizer of the event asked if I could “jot some ideas down” to share with these enthusiastic future educators.
I put the word “Game Changers” on the cover, had them printed by the local high school, and printed 25 copies for $50.
It felt pretty cool to have 10 ideas documented in, what I had no clue was going to become, my first book.
One year later that original document became my first real book, with 20 chapters, and I kept the original title, Game Changers.
And since that moment I have published 5 other books and led over 1,000 speaking events (no quotes this time) to over 500,000 teachers across the world.
The picture on the right was at a recent conference in Oklahoma.
500 teachers who are passionate about this profession came together to celebrate education and I had the beautiful privilege to lead them in laughing and learning.
A teacher approached me before the morning keynote and asked me to sign her copy of Game Changers on its 8th anniversary.
Every single time I sign a book, do a keynote, lead a workshop, or consult in a school I am reminded of the humble beginnings of this journey that I never saw coming but feel so honored to be a part of now.
So, thank you.
Thank you to each and every one of you who is on this journey with me.
I do it for you.
I do it for us.
We do it for kids.
Thanks for being a game changer,
