I remember the first time I read a book about teaching.
It was the summer before my 1st year of teaching.
And to be honest, it was terrible!
After that, I tried a few more that were intended to help educators on things like: best practice, innovative teaching, and loving our job.
But every single book read more like a textbook.
They were filled with data, case studies, and other mind-numbing topics that didn’t inspire or motivate me at all.
I found it really difficult to learn from people who weren’t even in a classroom anymore (and some never had been)
But guess what?
Teacher Books Don’t Have To Suck.
About 10 years ago I started writing. I wasn’t really sure what the process was “supposed to look like” but I opened a Word doc and just started typing.
At the end of this casual process I had 20 chapters that were fun and effective.
How did I l know that?
Because they were based on things that I was actually doing with my own students in my own classroom.
And to this day, that is the exact same book writing process I have used for all 5 of my books.
Most importantly, they have touched the heads and hearts of teachers just like you and me and therefore impacted the kids in our classrooms.
