Teachers, did you know that we are eligible for insane discounts on hotels!
And you can book these discounted rooms directly through the company, without using complicated and shady third-party websites.
If you want to travel more, get awesome deals on rooms, and go on tons of new adventures this hack is for you!
So here is the secret to this travel tip, you, as a public school teacher, are a state government employee.
And government employees are eligible for special government rates for hotel stays.
The 3 major hotel companies, Marriott, Hilton, and IHG ALL participate too!
Within each of their apps there is a spot to mark the special price.
Using this feature I have saved anywhere from $10/night all the way up to $100/night!
Here are some important things to remember when using this teacher travel tip:
1.) Be sure to have access to proof of being a teacher
They RARELY ask me for an ID, but if the front desk does upon check-in, I flash my teacher badge!
During Covid we didn’t get issued a physical card so I pulled up my school district webpage with my picture and they accepted that.
Most of the time the front desk doesn’t ask, but if they do, be ready.
2.) Most hotels participate in the rate
No frills hotels almost always have this government rate. I’ve used it as Holiday Inn Express, Courtyard, Hampton, and more.
Not all luxury hotels offer it, but some do!
I have scored insane discounted rates to Marriott Renaissance in big cities and ocean front properties in Florida like the W.
3.) You deserve access to this rate
As public school teachers we pay into state retirement systems and each paycheck we pay into state taxes. More importantly, schools are run by government policies and government mandates, so we are in fact state government workers, not federal.
There you have it, a hack to help with the teacher budget!
Are you SO excited to book your first trip using this tip???
