The 1st Week of Summer- Teacher Edition

School is out! I may or may not have danced a little when I typed that.  I have a smile on my face, a cup of coffee next to my computer, and I slept in…. until 7! Just living on the edge over here…

The 1st week of summer has a really special feel to it! Kids are running through sprinklers, binge watching Netflix, eating lots of snow cones and cold pizza, and living their best lives. They are excited about the break and are taking in every moment of this new found freedom they have. Baseball games end at 9pm and they don’t have to worry about waking up early for school. The frosted flakes are allowed to get a little soggy in the bowl as they take their time eating breakfast because there is no bus to be late for. It’s a beautiful thing.

You know who may be celebrating more than the kids though?

Teachers.

Cue the DJ Jazzy Jeff Music!

Educators all over the country are living up their best lives now too. It just tends to look a little different than the lives of their students…

We are waking up at 7 am to get started on power washing the house, because lord knows that didn’t happen this spring. We are living on the edge and going grocery shopping at Aldi in the middle of the day on a Tuesday… because we can! Crock pot meals? Please! Who needs a crock pot meal when you are actually home at 3 to start preparing something that doesn’t have to be simmering on low all day. We teachers are one CRAZY group of people when summer hits.

We feel REALLY edgy when we pour a glass of wine at around 2 pm (ok some of you may be drinking it out of a coffee cup a little earlier, no judgment). We have all these new found freedoms and we are embracing every second of them.

Do we love our jobs? YES! Undoubtedly, the greatest profession on the planet.

But that doesn’t mean we don’t love a break every once and a while too.

Spare us the “must be nice to have 3 months off” bit.

You better believe when the kids go to bed each night, after catching fireflies or doing sparklers, we are up on the Pinterest and TPT looking for amazing things to do with kids when August rolls around.

But for now, we are embracing that 1st week of summer.

And we should.
