Never Underestimate The Value of Student Selfies

Confession: During the quarantine developed a daily need for McDonalds unsweetened tea (add 3 splendas)

It’s become a pandemic vice and I’m totally ok with it!

A few weeks ago I rolled up to the window and heard in an excited shout, “Ms. G!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Moments later 3 former students were standing there wanting to chat.

As we caught up for a few moments one of the students said to their co-worker, “hey, pull up your mask a little bit, it’s falling.”

That simple statement got my right in the heart.

It showed they cared.
It showed they are listening.
It showed they are responsible.
It showed they aren’t afraid to teach each other.

Before leaving the drive through I asked if we could get a former student selfie, a tradition that I love doing when I see kids in public.

They looked at each other, smiled with their eyes, said, “I think we are allowed to do that” and threw up a peace sign

These are the moments that we teach for.
These are the moments that make this crazy worth it.

So let me leave you with one final, important thought…
Kids are never too old, too cool, or too busy for a student selfie.
